Windspeed
DATASET DESCRIPTION
Windspeed data at 10 meters above the surface over Ontario are available on a daily scale from 1996 to 2023, provided in full-coverage gridded maps with spatial resolution 0.01° x 0.01° and 0.1° x 0.1°. These datasets are generated from the ERA5-Land reanalysis, which used model data and global observations to provide consistent weather estimates.
Windspeed at this altitude plays a critical role in weather forecasting influencing temperature, precipitation patterns, and the dispersion of air pollutants. The data help analyzes local wind patterns, essential for studies in agriculture, urban planning, and environmental monitoring.
The accuracy of the ERA5 windspeed data is validated in Muñoz-Sabater et al. (2021).
