DATASET DESCRIPTION

The temperature data for Ontario, including daily mean, daily maximum, and daily minimum temperature (at 2m altitude) are now available at the daily scale from 1996 to 2023. The datasets are provided in full-coverage gridded maps, with two spatial resolutions: 0.01° x 0.01° and 0.1° x 0.1°. 

The temperature data are generated from the ERA5-Land reanalysis dataset, part of the fifth-generation ECMWF reanalysis for global climate and weather. ERA5-Land integrates model data with global observations, creating a consistent and comprehensive dataset by applying the laws of physics. The horizontal resolution of ERA5-Land is 0.1° x 0.1°, and the data has been processed using bilinear interpolation to provide finer-scale weather data at 0.01° x 0.01°. The accuracy of the ERA5 temperature data is validated in Muñoz-Sabater et al. (2021).
