JOB POSTING – POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

Description of duties: The Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto invites applicants for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join a dynamic, interdisciplinary research team. The fellow will contribute to epidemiological cohort studies and advanced modeling projects focused on environmental determinants of chronic diseases, including asthma, COPD, tuberculosis COVID-19, as well as hypertension, diabetes, and mental health conditions. The position is supported by CIHR-funded research grants.

The successful candidate will work closely with a vibrant team of leading experts, early- career researchers, and trainees across the disciplines of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Geography. Under the supervision of Prof. Erjia Ge, Associate Professor and lead of the Ge-iSEE lab, the fellow will lead and support the design and execution of analyses using large-scale administrative and cohort databases, including ICES, UK BioBank, and others. The goal is to generate evidence for improved exposure surveillance, risk prediction, and public health planning, particularly in the context of climate change.

The candidate will have the opportunity to develop an intendent research trajectory within the scope of ongoing projects and broader lab interests. Key responsibilities include:

  • Familiarizing with and managing large-scale databases (e.g., ICES, UK BioBank, CCHS);
  • Compiling and integrating publicly available environmental or health databases (e.g., CANUE, NASA) as needed;
  • Preparing ethics and data access documentation;
  • Assisting with study design, statistical modeling, and data analysis;
  • Drafting manuscripts, reports, and other scholarly outputs;
  • Supporting the development of research grant proposals in collaboration with the team;
  • Contributing to the supervision and mentoring of graduate students;
  • Assisting the supervisor with research-related tasks and knowledge translation activities.

Salary: $40,000-$55,000 per annum depending on candidate’s skills and experience.

Required qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. obtained within the past five years, preferably in Epidemiology and Environmental Health. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in analyzing large-scale health databases, such as ICES, UK BioBank, and the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS). Experience with cohort study designs, advanced statistical modelling, and the preparation of scientific publication is essential.

Candidates should exhibit strong scientific communication skills, a high level of enthusiasm for research, and a solid work ethic. A willingness to work on-site and maintain consistent, high-quality performance is expected. Prior experience working with ICES data is considered a strong asset.
