Nicholas Grubic Recognized as 2025 UTAA graduate scholar for advanced research on youth heart health

We are proud to share that Ge-ISEE member Nicholas Grubic, also a Vanier Scholar and PhD candidate in Epidemiology, has been named a 2025 University of Toronto Alumni Association (UTAA) Graduate Scholar – a prestigious recognition for outstanding graduate students.

Nicholas’ research focuses on socioeconomic inequalities in cardiovascular health among youth, merging his background as a varsity athlete with a commitment to public health. Inspired by the loss of a young athlete to sudden cardia arrest, he has dedicated his work to advancing cardiovascular research and advocacy.

He volunteers with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and recently helped raise over C$40,000 as part of its Young Leaders Committee.

“This award is a reminder of my responsibility to drive meaningful change.” He says.
